KBAC FM 98.1 Radio Free Santa Fe began broadcasting in December 1995 and is one of the most successful Adult Album Alternative (AAA) stations in the country. KBAC has received many honors and awards, most recently AAA Station of the Year (markets 75+) from Summitfest in Boulder, Colorado.
Combining music for all tastes, heritage on-air talent like Honey Harris (voted the best announcer in Santa Fe several times over the last 18 years), live performances, and a commitment to community causes, Radio Free Santa Fe has been the voice of the City Different for longer than a quarter-century.
With an engaging mix of local and syndicated hosts, you’ll find everything from Frogville Radio with John Treadwell spinning some of the best music being made in Santa Fe and shows like The Grateful Dead Hour and Floydian Slip, featuring all things Pink Floyd. Station Manager Chris Diestler hosts the 4:20 Flashback and Toast-n-Jam.
KBAC is where you can hear favorite artists like David Bowie, Lucinda Williams, Bonnie Raitt, Santana, Bob Marley, Talking Heads, Neil Young, Alabama Shakes, and more.
But we don’t just play songs by internationally known big-name artists. KBAC-FM, 98.1 Radio Free Santa Fe gives a voice to local musicians. Radio Free Santa Fe takes great pride in supporting local music and musicians, sponsoring live in-studio sessions, artist interviews, and local CD promotions.
